The Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) provided, this Sunday, important details about the explosion which occurred the previous evening in the Mourouj region (Ben Arous governorate). Contrary to the information relayed on social networks, the first investigations did not reveal any failure on the part of the external network.
According to the company’s statement, initial checks confirm that neither the exterior pipes nor the gas meters were damaged. These findings exclude the responsibility of the distribution network. The technicians dispatched to the site determined that the leak causing the explosion occurred within the affected home itself, at the level of the internal installation – and not on a gas pipe in the public domain, as has been suggested online.
STEG specifies that its technical teams intervened immediately after being informed of the incident, in coordination with civil protection and security forces, in order to secure the area and control the situation.
User awareness
The company announces that a detailed technical report will be published later, once all the investigations have been finalized and all the data has been verified with the various parties involved.
The explosion once again raises the question of the security of domestic installations and user awareness of the standards for maintaining internal networks.
