The financial judicial center ordered this Thursday the release of nine people prosecuted in the Henchir Chaâl case in Sfax, including the former Minister of Agriculture Samir Taieb. Seven of them were released on bail.
In Tunis, the investigating judge of the financial judicial center decided this Thursday, November 27, to release nine people involved in the Henchir Chaâl case, a case relating to alleged administrative and financial abuses in the management of state land in Sfax. Among those released is former Minister of Agriculture Samir Taieb. The decisions include variable bail for the majority of them.
Provisional outcome in a case of suspected corruption
According to information communicated by the financial judicial center and reported by Mosaique fm, nine people obtained their provisional release as part of an investigation opened into suspicions of misuse and irregular exploitation of state lands located in Henchir Chaâl, in the governorate of Sfax.
Among those concerned Samir Taieb, former Minister of Agriculture, the Director General of State Lands, as well as several administrative officials linked to the case.
The case concerns accusations of administrative and financial corruption, particularly in the allocation, management or exploitation of plots falling within the public agricultural domain.
Judicial clarifications
According to the same sources, seven of the nine people were released on financial bail, the amount of which varies from 10,000 to 50,000 dinars depending on the profiles and the presumed seriousness of the facts. Two other suspects were released without bail, a sign of a different assessment of the degree of involvement or guarantees of representation.
The investigation continues, and the releases do not amount to a dismissal of the charges.
