Heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours has caused wadis to overflow and disrupted travel, pushing education authorities to interrupt classes this Thursday afternoon.
In Béja, several delegations were affected by intense rains which led to the rapid rise of water in the wadis. Faced with the risk of flooding and traffic difficulties, the regional education directorate decided to suspend classes in Nefza and Amdoun this Thursday afternoon. The measure is part of a reinforced vigilance system.
Heavy rain and risk of flooding
Since the previous night, the governorate of Beja has recorded significant amounts of rain. Several wadis have reached critical levels, some overflowing onto secondary roads and temporarily blocking traffic in different points of the northwest relief.
Local authorities report areas where residents struggle to get around due to slippery or partially submerged roadways. Civil protection teams remain mobilized to assess the most sensitive points and prevent possible evacuations.
Decision to suspend classes in Nefza and Amdoun
Questioned by Diwan FM, the regional delegate of Education, Mohamed Farouk Ouichri, confirmed that the schools of Nefza and Amdoun would not provide classes during the afternoon session.
The decision comes as forecasts predict continued downpours, making school journeys potentially dangerous for students and staff.
