The sentence of trade unionist Sanki Assoudi reduced on appeal to six years in prison

The Tunis Court of Appeal confirmed the guilt of trade unionist Sanki Assoudi, former regional general secretary of the UGTT in Kasserine, while revising downwards his prison sentence from ten to six years.

The court also upheld a judgment in absentia sentencing a former CEO of the National Cellulose and Paper Company Alfa (SNCPA) to twenty-four years of imprisonment in the same case of false professional and academic certificates, reports Mosaique fm.

Falsification of documents

The decision fell this Thursday: the criminal chamber of the Court of Appeal of Tunis confirmed the criminal responsibility of Sanki Assoudi in a case which dates back to his time at the SNCPA. He was being prosecuted for charges related to the falsification of professional and academic certificates related to his previous positions.

If the court upheld its conviction, it nevertheless revised the sanction downwards: six years in prison instead of the ten years imposed at first instance. A notable reduction, but which does not call into question the recognition of his participation in the affair.

A co-defendant heavily sentenced in absentia

In the same case, the Court confirmed the judgment rendered against the former president and CEO of the company. The verdict, issued in absentia, remains unchanged: twenty-four years in prison, a particularly heavy sentence which reflects the seriousness of the accusations of falsification and use of forgery within the public company.
