A flow of cold air from the northwest brings a clear cooling to Tunisia this Thursday, accompanied by scattered rains, local thunderstorms and snowfall expected on the western heights. The wind strengthens in coastal areas and temperatures continue to drop, announcing one of the coldest episodes of the season.
An active cold front hitting the north and the heights
Thursday begins with noticeably cold weather, marked by scattered rain throughout the north and storm cells which occasionally affect coastal regions. The far northwest remains the most exposed area, with more sustained precipitation and a real risk of intense showers.
In the interior of the country, the rains become fleeting, but the cold air mass favors snowfall on the western heights, particularly above 800–900 meters.
This winter shift is accompanied by a northwest wind which strengthens in the north and center, particularly near the coasts, where the gusts sometimes become strong.
An early winter episode
Temperatures continue to fall: only 12 to 16°C in the majority of regions and 8°C in the western heights, where the feeling will become more severe under the effect of the wind.
This cold episode is part of a succession of disturbances which have affected the country since the beginning of the month. The North-West regions, already affected by repeated downpours, are now seeing the arrival of snow, a relatively early phenomenon but not exceptional for the end of November.
Climatological monitoring services point out that these cold incursions are typical of maritime polar air flows in the western Mediterranean.
