Several deputies who participated on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 in the joint meeting of the finance committees of the two chambers confirmed that the proposal for an additional article to the 2026 finance bill – that granting a customs advantage for the importation of a vehicle, known as “a car for each citizen” – obtained unanimity, reports Mosaique FM.
According to the same sources, the ministry had tabled an alternative version, but the elected officials insisted on maintaining the initial text.
Last summer, the finance committee of the Assembly of People’s Representatives had already received a bill aimed at offering Tunisians residing in Tunisia an exceptional advantage: import or buy, once in their life, a vehicle at its original price, without customs duties. MP Mohamed Zied Maher, bearer of the text, then detailed the conditions.
What criteria?
This benefit would be accessible to citizens aged over 30 or to families meeting several criteria, with an income ceiling set at 18 times the minimum wage for couples and 12 times for singles.
The initiators of the text also proposed giving priority to families where an ascending or descending member lives with a disability, if the latter has not already benefited from the system dedicated to cars for people with disabilities.
Another condition: the vehicle must not exceed ten years of age, whether imported or purchased from an approved dealer in Tunisia.
MP Zied Maher expects the examination of this bill to resume after the parliamentary break, in parallel with the debates on the finance law. If the consensus is confirmed, the issue could become one of the major subjects of the next budget cycle.
