The Ministry of Health is embarking on a new phase of digital transformation aimed at reducing inequalities in access to care. The Minister of Health, Mustapha Ferjani, confirmed that the authorities are now banking on the accelerated integration of technology and artificial intelligence to strengthen the quality of services and offer citizens, particularly in interior areas, advanced medical services available continuously.
According to him, the development of tele-radiology and the opening of 24-hour scanner services constitute a major turning point for regional hospitals often faced with a lack of specialists. The objective is clear: to allow patients to benefit from a rapid, reliable diagnosis available remotely, even outside usual hours.
At the same time, the generalization of telemedicine should facilitate access to rare specialties such as child psychiatry, dermatology, metabolic diseases and even rheumatology. A change which should reduce costly travel and improve care in governorates far from major hospital centers.
These reforms are part of the Head of State’s vision to build a more equitable and efficient health system, based on the use of emerging technologies. The minister recalls that Tunisian hospitals have already started the adoption of robotic surgery and that artificial intelligence is now used in several diagnostic processes, strengthening patient confidence in the quality of care.
In terms of human resources, the minister stressed that the public sector welcomes between 900 and 1000 new doctors each year. However, annual departures – linked to retirement or migration – reach 200 to 250 practitioners, a gap which requires, according to him, new loyalty policies. The priorities relate in particular to improving the working environment, strengthening the technical platform, access to modern equipment and the establishment of continuing training adapted to technological developments.
With these measures, the ministry hopes not only to modernize infrastructure but also to preserve medical skills in the face of a very competitive global context.
