During a joint plenary session in Parliament, held this Tuesday in Carthage, the Minister of National Defense, Khaled Shili, warned of the rise in power of drones and their growing use in the military and civil fields, constituting, according to him, a major national and international challenge.
The minister specified that the Ministry of Defense initiated coordination meetings with several ministries, which resulted in the decision to entrust the General Directorate of Civil Aviation with the creation of a commission responsible for preparing a legislative and regulatory project relating to the management and control of drones. This project has already been completed and comments have been submitted for its improvement.
Khaled Shili also stressed that the ministry is implementing joint exercises with the Ministry of the Interior, in order to ensure an effective and coordinated response to emergencies, in a context where the unregulated use of drones directly threatens the security of air traffic, infrastructure, citizens and the national security system.
The minister recalled the importance of sharing information and coordinating with the Ministries of the Interior and Transport to monitor global developments and strengthen defense capabilities against this technology. He emphasized the need to develop jamming systems to neutralize threatening drones and support for military preparedness to respond to emerging challenges.
Finally, he indicated that the Ministry of Defense actively contributes to the development and updating of national strategies in the field of information and communication technologies, such as the national cybersecurity strategy and the national strategy for artificial intelligence.
