The budget of the Ministry of Transport for the year 2026 will reach 1,281 million dinars (MD) in commitments and 1,267 million in payments, recording an increase of 17.7% compared to 2025, announced Minister Rachid Amri.
Priority to land transport and support for public enterprises
According to the minister, nearly 93% of the credits will be devoted to land transport, with 700 MD intended to support public companies in the sector, in particular Transtu, SNCFT and regional transport companies. These subsidies represent more than half of the overall budget, or around 55% of the ministry’s expenses.
Investments to modernize the fleet and the rail
The 2026 investment program provides for the acquisition of 250 new buses, 300 used buses and 30 metro trains. A budget of 150 million dinars will be devoted to the rehabilitation and modernization of the railway network, in order to improve the safety, punctuality and performance of rolling stock.
Minister Rachid Amri announced the reactivation of railway line No. 11 linking Kalaa Sghira, Kairouan and Kasserine, which has been stopped for several years.
A feasibility study will also be launched for a high-performance railway line linking the north to the south of the country via Kairouan, in order to strengthen territorial cohesion and open up interior regions.
