Two hundred and eight first-year primary school students from Chabbaou (Oued Ellil) and Koumrienne (Tebourba) schools benefited, on Saturday, from a medical vision and dental screening campaign, organized as part of the national visual and oral health campaign in educational priority schools.
The initiative, led by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Ministry of Educationmobilized the School and University Medicine Center of Manouba, seven ophthalmologists and dentists, as well as scout volunteers. The operation took place under the supervision of the regional health directorate and the regional education delegation.
49 cases of myopia detected
According to Imen Habbassi, regional health director in Manouba, 49 cases of myopia were diagnosed; the children concerned will soon receive corrective glasses offered in partnership with the association “One day, a dream”.
In addition, five children with more serious dental conditions will be subject to additional follow-up in local health centers.
Awareness and support
In addition to medical examinations, students took part in 23 awareness sessions on oral hygiene and preventive care, accompanied by the distribution of educational brochures.
The regional education delegation provided transport for the students to the caravan site, thus marking both a health and social operation.
