An act of desecration was reported on the night of November 6 to 7 at Al-Jawhara primary school in Aban, in the delegation of El Haouaria, governorate of Nabeul.
According to Béchir Al-Tayeb, member of the regional council for the delegation, eight individuals were arrested after burning the Tunisian flag and displaying a banner bearing inscriptions contrary to national sovereignty and the secularism of the State.
Authorities quickly identified and arrested the suspects, in accordance with legal requirements.
In an intervention on Diwan fm, lawyer Abdelwahab Mabrouk recalled that violation of the national flag is punishable by up to one year in prison, according to article 129 of the Penal Code.
If the facts are accompanied by a link with a terrorist group or an act undermining the security of the State, the penalty can reach life imprisonment or the death penalty.
