New spectacular seizure at the Tunisian-Libyan border: customs agents at the Ras Jedir post intercepted an attempted smuggling of foreign currencies with an estimated value of nearly 1.5 million dinars.
A careful operation carried out by customs
According to a press release from the General Directorate of Customs, published Friday, November 7, the in-depth search of a vehicle registered abroad, about to leave Tunisian territory, led to the discovery of 400,000 euros and 40,000 dollars carefully hidden on board.
The currencies were hidden in designated compartments of the vehicle, confirming the meticulous preparation of the smuggling attempt. The agents drew up a seizure report and informed the public prosecutor, who ordered the file to be transmitted to the competent security services for investigation.
Increased vigilance at the borders
This new operation illustrates the constant vigilance of customs services in the face of illegal currency flows and cross-border traffic which attempts to circumvent Tunisian exchange regulations.
The Ras Jedir border post, the main crossing point between Tunisia and Libya, remains one of the most monitored routes in the country, both for the fight against smuggling and for national economic security.
