Tunisian football loses one of its most emblematic defenders. Mohamed Ali Moussa passed away yesterday, Friday November 7, 2025 at the age of 71, leaving behind the image of an exceptional player, loyal, courageous and deeply attached to Club Africain, his favorite club.
Born on April 5, 1954 in Bab Souika, Mohamed Ali Moussa discovered football very early in the popular streets of the capital. Passionate and talented, he made his debut at Jeunesse Sportive de Omrane, where he quickly distinguished himself by his defensive rigor and his combative temperament. In 1973, he joined the African Club, thus beginning a career which would leave a lasting mark on the history of the red and white club.
The African Club, its home base and its sporting family
From his first seasons, Ben Moussa established himself as one of the best left-backs in the country. His reading of the game, his power and his total commitment on the pitch make him a pillar of the club’s defense. With the African Club, he won several major titles, actively participating in one of the most prosperous periods in the club’s history:
Called up for the national team in 1974, Mohamed Ali Moussa made his first selection on February 26, 1974 against Yugoslavia. But fate decides otherwise: a serious injury keeps him away from the field for eighteen long months. Despite this ordeal, he comes back stronger, faithful to his club and his passion.
A destiny marked by courage and resilience
Member of the Tunisian selection during the 1978 World Cup in Argentina, he is part of this heroic generation which allowed Tunisia to write the most beautiful page in its sporting history, by becoming the first African nation to win a World Cup match.
Discreet, humble and deeply human, Mohamed Ali Moussa embodied the spirit of the African Club: combativeness, a sense of collectiveness and loyalty. His teammates, his managers and the supporters will remember him as an upright man, an intractable defender, but above all a sportsman who never stopped loving and serving his club.
