Tunisia: an MP criticizes governance and speaks of “disconnection from reality”

A speech that breaks the silence

During the session of November 6, 2025 at the Assembly of People’s Representatives, MP Ahmed Saïdani (Mateur-Utique constituency) delivered a speech with a rare tone in the hemicycle. Denouncing “off-ground management” and a State that is “losing its mind,” he repeated this refrain question: “How long will this madness last?” »

Without mentioning the president by name, he spoke of governance “disconnected from reality”, focused on the control of security institutions and cut off from the field: “And yet we continue to talk about conspiracies! »he said, in a formula that has gone viral.

The MP also castigated ministerial appointments “without vision”, which he considers contrary to the national interest. On the economic side, he contradicted official declarations on the strength of the dinar: “It lost 45% of its value against gold in one year,” he said, pointing out a gap between communication and reality.

A regular outspoken person

Ahmed Saïdani is not his first criticism. In 2023, he had already attacked the governor of Bizerte then the head of government Ahmed Hachani, whom he accused of “speaking to say nothing”. Defender of a sovereignist line, he demands free speech in the face of what he perceives as an authoritarian drift.
