The 13th day of Ligue 1 was marked this Wednesday by an avalanche of red cards – five expulsions in four matches – and by the expected rebounds of several teams. Étoile du Sahel confirmed its return to form against an undisciplined ES Zarzis, CS Sfaxien found a smile again in Béja, while AS Marsa finally got back on track in front of their home crowd.
L’Étoile takes advantage of the chaos in Sousse
In Sousse, Étoile du Sahel won a tense victory (1-0) against ES Zarzis, in a match which degenerated before the break. Houssem Dagdoug opened the scoring in the 7th minute, before the visitors became nervous: Seifeddine Charfi (41′) then Innocent Nshuti (45′) were sent off in quick succession. Reduced to nine at half-time, Anis Boujelbène’s team resisted until the end, before a third red, that of Moataz Chouchene (90’+11), came to seal a nightmarish evening.
This laborious success allows Étoile to climb to 8th place with 18 points, while Zarzis remains 6th.
The CSS is recovering in Béja
Beaten at home by Esperance during the clasico, the Sfaxiens reacted seriously. Traveling to Beja, CS Sfaxien won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Iyed Belwafi (41′). The rapid expulsion of Ammar Taifour (24′) had a heavy impact, giving the visitors a decisive numerical superiority. This victory gives momentum to CSS, now 4th with 20 points.
In Métlaoui, the duel between ES Métlaoui and US Monastir kept all its promises. Naby Sylla (43rd) had first placed the miners in orbit, but the visitors reversed the trend in two minutes thanks to Fakhreddine Ben Youssef (73rd) and Adnene Yaakoubi (75th). Métlaoui finally snatched a draw (2–2), a logical result at the end of a lively meeting.
At the end of the day, AS Marsa ended a dark series by dominating CA Bizertin (2-0). Yousri Arfaoui (14′) and Ahmed Hadhri (45′) gave the Banlieusards a welcome victory, against Bizerteins reduced to ten after the expulsion of Amine Jaballah (34′). A breath of fresh air for Marsa, in search of stability.
A tense end to the day ahead
The 13th day will end on Thursday with two decisive posters. In Radès, Esperance de Tunis (1st, 27 pts) receives JS Omrane with the obligation to win to consolidate its leadership position. At Bardo, an explosive duel will pit Stade Tunisien (3rd, 26 pts) against Club Africain (2nd, 26 pts), a real clash for the second step of the podium.
