The Minister of Communication Technologies, Sofiene Hemissi, announced Tuesday that baccalaureate students will soon be able to obtain their national identity card remotely, a first step in a vast program for the digitalization of public services.

Speaking at a joint session of the Committee on the Organization of Administration, Governance and the Fight against Corruption at the Assembly of People’s Representatives and the Committee on Development Plans and Major Projects at the National Council of Regions and Districts, Hemissi presented the main directions of his department’s 2026 budget.

The minister stressed that the priorities for the coming year relate to accelerating the digitalization of the administration, strengthening digital infrastructure, completing the digital transformation of state structures, as well as updating the legislative and regulatory framework and securing cyberspace.

He indicated that the national platform for administrative procedures has already reached 50% of its progress rate, adding that several services with high citizen demand are under development.

“The launch of the online extraction service for the national identity card will begin with baccalaureate candidates,” said the minister, believing that this initiative marks a decisive step towards a more modern, faster and more accessible administration.
