A first edition under a gray sky
Initially scheduled for October, the first edition of the Innov Agri Water Expo 2025 will finally be held from November 12 to 15 in Gabès, according to Tunisian National Radio.
Organized by ART Event in partnership with the Regional Farmers’ Union, the event will bring together researchers, engineers and companies around agricultural and water technologies.
An ambitious bet for a region long marked by industrial pollution, which today seeks to reinvent itself under the sign of sustainability.
The sea as a reminder
Gabès remains, more than any other Tunisian city, the symbol of double-edged development.
The fumes from the Tunisian chemical group still envelope the bay; discharges of phosphogypsum cover the shores with gray dust.
On October 1, 2025, Kaïs Saïed denounced a “environmental assassination”evoking a “criminal” situation which has continued for decades.
In the coastal districts, the expression is not excessive: the inhabitants speak of a sea without fish and an air saturated with sulfur.
Ecology as a promise
It is in this setting that the Innov Agri Water Expo arrives.
On the posters: smart sensors, solar irrigation, wastewater recycling.
In the streets: an old anger, mixed with curiosity.
Many fear a green communication exercise.
Others want to believe that in Gabès, innovation could become the beginning of repair.
