The 36th Criminal Chamber specializing in financial corruption cases at the Tunis Court of Appeal confirmed, this Sunday, November 2, 2025, the judgment rendered in first instance against the businessman and former deputy Ridha Charfeddine, reports Mosaique FM.
The court thus ratified the sentence of three years in prison and a fine estimated at 72 million dinars for facts linked to the constitution of assets abroad without the authorization of the Central Bank of Tunisia.
The decision comes as part of a case investigated by the economic and financial judicial center, which had previously issued a committal warrant against the businessman.
An emblematic case of money laundering and assets abroad
The case concerns the holding of funds and property outside the country without prior declaration to the BCT, an offense punishable by prison sentences and heavy fines under Tunisian law.
Ridha Charfeddine, also founder of the pharmaceutical group UNICIA and former president of Étoile sportif du Sahel, had denied the accusations, saying that his operations were legal commercial activities.
Other ongoing cases
At the same time, another case of money laundering, tax and banking offenses involving Ridha Charfeddine, her brother and other defendants, was examined on September 29, 2025 by the specialized criminal chamber of the court of first instance of Tunis.
During this hearing, the defendant requested a postponement of the trial in order to be able to appoint a lawyer. The chamber granted this request and set the next hearing for November 2025.
Ridha Charfeddine, a controversial figure in the Tunisian economic and sporting world, has already been sentenced to 16 years in prison in connection with the so-called conspiracy against state security case.
He is today facing several proceedings for financial corruption, money laundering and banking offenses, marking one of the heaviest aspects of the current fight against economic delinquency in Tunisia.
