Tunisia shines again in a discreet but demanding sport. Swimmer Sarra Ben Ahmed won the gold medal in the 400-meter twin-fin swimming event on Saturday in Abu Dhabi, with a remarkable time of 3:59.21, during the fin swimming World Cup stage.
She is ahead of the Egyptian Rokia Issam Mohamed (4:08.28) and the Kazakh Alissa Assilgarayeva (4:14.00).
A young champion already titled
This new coronation confirms the upward trajectory of the Tunisian swimmer, already a gold medalist in the 1,000 meters in open water (junior category) on October 11, 2025 in El-Alamein (Egypt), during the Finswimming World Championships.
At only 17 years old, Sarra Ben Ahmed has established herself as one of the revelations of the discipline at the international level.
Tunisia in the wake of the pioneers
Swimming with fins, often unknown to the general public, was born in 1935 thanks to Commander Louis de Corlieu, inventor of the first rubber fins, inspired by Polynesian fishermen. Since then, the discipline has evolved with the creation of the monofin in the 1970s, revolutionizing swimming techniques.
Recognized as an Olympic sport since 1986 by the International Olympic Committee, fin swimming has become structured on a global scale and finds fertile ground in Tunisia.
