An accident caused fear among participants during the passage of the “Pink Train” in Tozeur, Thursday October 30, when part of the station entrance hall collapsed in the middle of a breast cancer screening event. Three people, including a paramedic and two citizens, were slightly injured.

According to a press release from the National Office for Family and Population (ONFP), the incident is “totally independent” of the organization of the medical event. The regional authorities intervened immediately to rescue the injured, administer first aid to them on site and transfer them to the Tozeur regional hospital.

According to the same source, the victims were taken care of medically and psychologically. Two of them were able to leave the hospital within an hour of their admission, while the third, who had surgery in the evening, should be released the next day, her condition having significantly improved.

Pink Train activities continue

The ONFP wanted to reassure that the activities planned as part of the “Pink Train” will continue normally. Screening and awareness campaigns continued in Tozeur before moving to Degache, where medical teams resumed their program without incident.

Launched six years ago, the “Pink Train” operation is part of the Pink October demonstrations under the slogan “For you, the Pink Train is back”. Organized by the ONFP, it aims to encourage early detection of breast and cervical cancer through free consultations and awareness-raising actions carried out in several regions of the country.
