Finance Minister Michket Slama Khaldi presented the 2026 budget on Thursday during a hearing before the finance committees of the Assembly of People’s Representatives and the Council of Local Authorities, revealing a total volume of 800 million dinars (MD), intended to support social funds.

Targeted benefits for health and social security

In addition to this support for social funds, the budget provides 100 million dinars for the purchase of private medicines, the payment of rights to retirement and social protection funds, as well as credits allocated to early retirement.

Increase in social spending

State operating expenditure for 2026 is distributed as follows: 39.7% for rent and rentals, 18.8% for development, 11.3% for debt financing, 4.6% for current expenditure, 15.4% for public support, 7.3% for social interventions.

The minister also announced a 17.7% increase in the budget of the Ministry of Social Affairs, going from 3,446 MD in 2025 to 4,080 MD in 2026, thus strengthening the financing of social policies and citizen assistance programs.
