This Thursday, July 10, 2025, Tunisia opened the work of an international conference devoted to the role of the armed forces in the protection of civilians. Organized over two days, this meeting brings together ministers, experts from partner countries and senior United Nations officials.

An international context marked by crises

In his opening speech, Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti highlighted the importance of this event. He recalled that the conference is being held at a time when security and humanitarian challenges continue to worsen. According to him, this situation requires reinforced coordination of international efforts to protect civilian populations and consolidate peace.

A collective responsibility

The minister insisted on an essential point: the protection of civilians is no longer a temporary response. It now represents a moral duty and a responsibility shared by all. He called for a global and multidimensional approach, based on political solutions, population security and sustainable development.

Tunisia, an actor engaged in peace missions

Mohamed Ali Nafti recalled Tunisia’s historic commitment to peacekeeping operations. He affirmed that the country will continue its active contribution to the effectiveness of these missions. He also stressed the importance of building fair partnerships between States and organizations, while giving developing countries the means to fully participate in peacebuilding.

Recognition of the role of Tunisia

The organization of this conference in Tunisia demonstrates the recognition of its role as a land of dialogue. It also reflects its attachment to multilateralism and international cooperation. This choice takes on a symbolic dimension, as the United Nations celebrates its 80th anniversary this year.
