The Chinese Ambassador to Tunisia, Wan Li, affirmed that Tunisia occupies a unique strategic position to invest in the African continent. He praised the country’s industrial potential and human capital, considered major assets for strengthening Sino-African cooperation.
In an interview with the TAP agency, Wan Li returned to President Kaïs Saïed’s visit to Beijing in May 2024, a moment that he described as a turning point in bilateral relations. This visit concluded with the signing of a strategic partnership between the two countries, marking a desire to deepen political, economic and technological cooperation, specifying that:
“Both sides raised mutual political trust to a high level and committed to accelerating the implementation of the agreements reached.”
Towards trilateral cooperation Tunisia–China–Africa
The ambassador stressed that Beijing now wishes to go further by associating Tunisia with its African initiatives. “China is ready to work with Tunisia to develop cooperation with other African countries and explore the prospects of trilateral cooperation,” he said.
This approach is a continuation of the Tunisia–China–Africa Forum on medical development, scheduled for next November in Tunis. This event is intended to be a model of collaboration between China and Africa, drawing on Tunisian expertise in the field of health and the common desire to promote lasting partnerships in the social and technological sectors.
A common future to build
For Wan Li, modernization is a goal shared by China and Africa, representing more than 2.8 billion people yearning for a better future. He insisted on the fact that “China’s development contributes to that of Africa”, and that it is an engine of mutual prosperity based on solidarity and shared benefits.
“China’s development has always been welcomed by the African people, as it promotes common growth and balanced partnership,” he added.
