The Criminal Chamber of the Tunis Court of First Instance decided, this Friday, October 24, 2025, to postpone to a later date the trial of the president of the Free Destourian Party (PDL), Abir Moussi, prosecuted in the so-called “office of order” case of the Presidency of the Republic. The defense, as announced, boycotted this hearing, denouncing a case with a “strong political charge”.
Abir Moussi is being prosecuted under Article 72 of the Tunisian Penal Code, which punishes attempting to change the state regime, a charge punishable by death. This provision, rarely applied, has sparked strong criticism among the defenders of the president of the PDL, who consider the alleged acts to have no criminal basis.
The case dates back to 2023, when the party leader went to the registry office of the Presidency of the Republic to file administrative appeals. This gesture has since been interpreted by the prosecution as an attack on state security.
During a press conference held earlier in the week, Me Ali Béjaoui, member of the defense collective, denounced an “instrumentalization of justice” and an “unfair procedure”.
