The National Guard has struck hard against cross-border drug trafficking. The Aouina central anti-narcotics brigade dismantled an international criminal network operating between Libya and Tunisia, making five arrests in the governorates of Sousse and Kairouan, and seizing a kilogram of cocaine.

Cocaine trafficking between Libya and Tunisia

The operation, carried out after several weeks of surveillance, made it possible to get hold of a structured network involved in the transport and resale of cocaine from Libya.

In addition to the drugs, the police seized a 4×4 truck, a light vehicle, two motorcycles, and a sum of 20,000 dinars suspected of coming from trafficking.

Officers also discovered 35 narcotics tablets and a significant quantity of contraband cigarettes. The Sousse 1 Prosecutor’s Office ordered the continuation of legal proceedings against the suspects.

400 kg of cannabis seized in Sousse

This operation is part of a reinforced fight against drug trafficking. Last week, the Sousse 1 court issued eight committal warrants after the seizure of 400 kilos of cannabis resin in a port in the region.

Twenty-five people were questioned, but only eight were imprisoned for drug trafficking, money laundering and the formation of a transnational criminal organization.

This seizure, which took place on September 27, made it possible to prevent the placing on the market of a large quantity of drugs intended for resale.

A month of hard blows for traffickers

These cases come a few weeks after another major operation, announced by the Ministry of the Interior on September 28, 2025.

Security forces then arrested ten people and seized nearly 3,000 plates of cannabis, 70,000 dinars in cash, gold, a firearm, as well as a jamming device. Three cars, a truck, three motorcycles, two zodiacs and four fishing boats were also confiscated.

For the authorities, these raids reflect increased mobilization against transnational drug networks, often linked to other smuggling and money laundering circuits.
