The Louvre Museum in Paris was the scene of a daring theft this Sunday, October 19, 2025. Criminals stole historical jewels of inestimable value from the Apollo Gallery, before fleeing on a motorcycle.
Around 9:30 a.m., when the museum had just opened, three to four individuals accessed the upper floor of the museum using a freight elevator parked nearby, presumably as part of work in progress. They forced open a window on the Seine side facade using a grinder, thus entering the gallery. In the space of seven minutes, they stole nine precious pieces, including jewels that belonged to Napoleon and Empress Eugénie. The thieves then fled on T-Max scooters towards the A6 motorway.
Among the stolen pieces, there are jewels that belonged to Napoleon and Empress Eugénie. A crown, believed to be that of Empress Eugenie, was found damaged near the museum. The other objects remain untraceable to this day.
The Interior Ministry and Culture Minister Rachida Dati expressed dismay at the sophistication of the theft. An investigation is underway to identify those responsible. The museum was closed for the day due to the incident.
