Astronomical calculations for the Hijri year 1447 indicate that the month of Ramadan 2026 is expected to begin on Thursday, February 19, according to estimates by the Emirates Astronomers Association.
Ibrahim Jarwan, president of the association, specifies that the lunar crescent will be born on Tuesday February 17 at 4:01 p.m. (UAE time), or 3:01 p.m. in Saudi Arabia, and will set one minute after sunset. Its very low visibility – estimated at around two hours and twelve minutes – will make its observation unlikely that evening.
The official crescent sighting will take place on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, corresponding to Shaabane 29, 1447, in accordance with religious procedures adopted in most Islamic countries. The final date for the start of Ramadan will be confirmed after this observation with the naked eye or via telescope.
According to the same forecasts, Eid al-Fitr should be celebrated on Friday March 20, 2026.
