A surreal scene shocked the Kairouan region yesterday. A coach of the Hajeb Layoun Sports Club youth team forced his players to walk ten kilometers on foot, bags on their backs, after a defeat in a friendly match against Jeunesse Sportive Kairouanaise.
According to the testimonies collected, the coach, furious at the result, ordered the young people to get off the bus before their arrival and to walk back to Hajeb Layoun, as a collective punishment.
The parents of the players, informed of the scene, immediately expressed their indignation, denouncing “immoral, inhumane and irresponsible” behavior, especially towards teenagers participating in a simple friendly meeting.
Faced with the outcry caused by this affair, the steering committee of the Hajeb Layoun Sports Club reacted without delay by immediately dismissing the coach and presenting its official apologies to the families concerned, ensuring that such an attitude “in no way reflects the educational and sporting values of the club”.
