The investigating judge of the court of first instance of Ben Arous issued, this Friday, two arrest warrants against Lassaad Yaakoubi, former secretary general of the secondary education union, and another individual, for suspicion of monopoly and speculation on the markets.
Agricultural products seized
According to the first elements of the investigation, the central brigade of the National Guard of L’Aouina seized a large quantity of potatoes stored in a warehouse belonging to the two suspects. The operation was carried out with the authorization of the public prosecutor, who then ordered their custody.
Investigation opened for speculation and monopoly
At the end of the detention period, the two men were brought before the Ben Arous public prosecutor’s office. The latter decided to open a preliminary investigation into speculation and monopolistic practices, before their hearing by the investigating judge. The latter ordered their incarceration pending further investigations.
This case is part of a national campaign against speculation and illegal storage of basic products, led by the authorities for several months.
The arrest of Lassaad Yaakoubi, a well-known union figure, gives particular resonance to this issue, which is already arousing strong reactions in educational and political circles.
