The investigating judge at the Ben Arous Court of First Instance ordered, on Thursday, the incarceration of five defendants, including a public works contractor, a road company representative and three other officials. These measures come following the dramatic accident that occurred on the construction site of the highway linking Tunis to Jelma.
Two dead and three seriously injured
The partial collapse of the bridge, which occurred in the governorate of Ben Arous, cost the lives of two workers and injured three others, suffering multiple fractures. The victims were working on the construction site when a section of the structure collapsed.
Investigations are continuing to determine technical and administrative responsibilities in this fatal accident. The experts are seeking in particular to establish whether breaches of safety standards or structural defects are at the origin of the disaster.
