The President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, received the head of government, Sara Zaâfrani Zenzri, on Wednesday to examine the finance bill and the economic budget for 2026. He insisted on the need to place the social dimension at the heart of the budget and to initiate profound structural reforms of public finances.
Reforms and social balance
The Head of State recalled that budgetary balances must not be reduced to figures, but that they must translate into a concrete improvement in the daily lives of citizens in all regions of the country.
He estimated that Tunisia faces a “heavy legacy”, the result of many years of mismanagement, and that it is now imperative to adopt new approaches and renewed thinking to restore public finances.
Referring to the financial situation, Kaïs Saïed stressed that Tunisia has repaid all its debts on time, despite the fact that the people have not fully benefited from them. He criticized those who “regret the days of foreign financial control” and call for external intervention, saying Tunisia has chosen the path of sovereignty and autonomy.
Administrative dysfunctions and call for responsibility
The president denounced the poor functioning of several public services, calling on those responsible to assume the consequences of their failings. He also warned against the persistence of power centers and lobbies within the administration, ensuring that no parallel force has its place in the Tunisian state based on justice, freedom and national dignity.
In conclusion, Kaïs Saïed urged to open the way for Tunisian youth, whom he considers to be the driving force of national renewal. “These are not illusory dreams,” he said, “but hopes that will come true and expectations that will not be disappointed. »
