The Palestinian journalist and writer Abdel Bari Atwan affirmed, yesterday Tuesday, October 7, that Tunisia is today the subject of Israeli discontent because of his constant support for the Palestinian cause.

Guest by Tunisian radio Jawhara FMAtwan indicated that “the ships of the Resilience Flotilla set sail from Tunisian ports”which, according to him, sparked the wrath of Israel.

He added that Tunisia has always been a refuge and support for the Palestinian resistancerecalling that Tunis welcomed the leaders of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) after their departure from Lebanon in 1982.

“Israel will never forgive Tunisia for this historic support,” he insisted.

Asked about the rumors an alleged approval by the Hamas movement of the Trump plan concerning the Gaza StripAbdel Bari Atwan judged that it was a question ofa tactical maneuver.

“This is a smart strategy by the Hamas leadership,” he explained. “Trump was looking for the slightest pretext to give Israel the green light for an all-out offensive on Gaza and to justify the extermination of the Palestinian people. »

The journalist also recalled that more than two years of negotiations carried out to Doha and Cairo failed to reach an agreement.

“All these discussions have failed to break Hamas’ resistance, to make it bend or capitulate. The movement will never give in,” he said.

Unconditional support

Abdel Bari Atwan’s statements are part of a context of persistent tensions in the Middle Eastwhile talks between Israel, the United States and several regional actors have still not resulted in a lasting solution regarding the humanitarian and political situation in the Gaza Strip.

There Tunisiafor its part, remains one of the few Arab countries to maintain a firm stance of support for the Palestinian causerefusing any diplomatic normalization with Israel. Since the war of 2023, Tunis has repeatedly reiterated its support for the Palestinian resistance And condemned the bombings on Gaza.
