According to the latest data from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, more than 20,000 Tunisian students were welcomed by universities abroad during 2024, confirming the strong dynamic of international academic mobility.
France remains the first destination, with 8,153 Tunisian students enrolled in its higher establishments, or almost 58% of the total. Germany arrives in second position with 6,852 students, thus consolidating bilateral links thanks in particular to the “Ta’ziz” partnership program, launched in 2023 by the German university exchange office (DAAD).
This program promotes the development of university and scientific cooperation, with co-divipile agreements and double engineering diplomas, as well as exchanges in the humanities and social sciences.
In third position, Italy welcomes 1123 Tunisian students, followed by Spain (1090) and Canada (858). Russia completes the top 6 with around 800 students.
Minister Mondher Belaïd underlined during the closing conference of the “Ta’ziz” program that these exchanges strengthen the capacities of Tunisian universities and researchers, while creating synergies with economic and social actors.
He also recalled that German students choose to follow their studies in Tunisia, in particular via the co-diplum and Erasmus+programs, illustrating a real bidirectional flow of academic exchanges.
The Minister finally praised the role of the German university exchange office, which contributes to the quality and efficiency of these programs, and encouraged the strengthening of academic and scientific mobility for students, researchers, doctoral students and Tunisian teachers.
