Sumud world flotilla: Ben-Gvir claims prison for activists

The Minister of National Security of the Zionist entity, Itamar Ben-Gvir, called for a more severe approach to activists intercepted during the world flotilla Sumud. In a post on X, he estimated that activists should not be simply returned to their countries, but kept for several months in prisons of the Zionist entity “to get used to the smell of the terrorist wing”, in his words.

Ben-Gvir criticized Prime Minister Netanyahu’s decision to expel them, saying that a direct return “encourages these activists to return again and again”. This position comes after the minister publicly dealt with “terrorists” the activists detained, seated on the ground of the port of Ashdod, in a widely disseminated video.

Case of Italian activists

Four Italian parliamentarians and MEPs, part of the Global Sumud flotilla, were expelled by the Zionist entity. They were transferred to Tel Aviv Airport and will embark on a regular flight to Rome, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. This expulsion is part of the standard procedure applied to international activists.

The flotilla and the arrests

The flotilla, made up of more than 40 ships and around 500 activists, was intercepted in international waters off the coast of Gaza by the navy of the Zionist entity. A total of 473 participants were arrested, including 25 Tunisian citizens, said lawyer Me Sami Ben Ghazi.

The documents are “routine” and aim to formalize the procedures:

  • First document : expulsion and recognition of a reprehensible act.
  • Second document : crossing the territorial waters of the Zionist entity.
  • Third document : Acceleration of extradition procedures.

Before their participation, activists had been informed of the content of these documents and the consequences of their interception, according to Me Ben Ghazi.
