An official ceremony was held this Thursday, October 2 for the signing of a donation agreement 12 million euros (approximately 41 million dinars) between The Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) And The European Investment Bank (BEI). This aid, funded by the European Union, aims to provide technical support to the STEG as part of the project Elmed electrical connection between Tunisia and Italy.
The event took place in the presence of the European Commissioner responsible for the neighborhood and enlargement, Dubravka Šuicaand brought together several officials and representatives of the stakeholders.
The agreement was signed by the President and CEO of STEG, Fayçal Trifaand the Division Head for the Mena region at the BEI, Ulrich Brunnhuber. Were also present: Giuseppe PerroneAmbassador of the European Union in Tunisia, Jean-Luc Revereaultdirector of the BEI office in Tunis, as well as representatives of the EU, EUI, Ministry of Energy and Steg delegation.
The project Elmed aims to create a direct interconnection between Tunisian and Italian electrical networks. It aims to strengthen the national network, to promote investments in renewable energies and to contribute to the country’s energy security.
There total estimated cost of the project amounts to around 1 billion euros.
