The Diwan of IFTA announced this Thursday the death of Cheikh Hamda Saïed, former mufti of the Republic. The news fell at the dawn of October 2, corresponding to 10 Rabii Ath-Tohani 1447, plunging the religious and national community into sadness.
Cheikh Hamda Saïed, who exercised the function of Mufti of the Republic from 2013 to 2016, was known for his erudition and his role of moral authority in the country. His disappearance puts an end to a journey marked by the defense of religious values and the contribution to spiritual dialogue in Tunisia.
In his press release, the Ifta diwan expressed his “deep sadness” and formulated prayers so that God grants him his mercy and welcomed him in his eternal paradise. Several religious and political figures should pay tribute to him in the coming hours.
Appointed in the midst of a post-2011 political transition period, Hamda Saïed had marked his passage through positions on sensitive societal and religious issues. His voice had often weighed in national debates on the place of religion and social reforms.
