Several Moroccan cities were the theater, during four consecutive evenings, of unauthorized demonstrations. Applicating reforms in the health and education sectors, the protesters came up against the police on Tuesday evening. The Ministry of the Interior reports 409 arrests and nearly 300 injured.

In Oujda, Inzegane and in other cities, the demonstrations degenerated into clashes. According to the spokesperson for the Interior Ministry, Rachid El Khalfi, some protesters used white weapons, Molotov cocktails and stones.

The results report 263 injured in the ranks of the police and 23 among the demonstrators, including a hospitalized person in Oujda. More than 140 police vehicles and 20 private cars were burnt down. Administrative buildings, banking agencies and businesses have also been targeted, especially in Inzegane and Oujda.

The authorities have announced the placement in police custody of 409 people. Among them, 37 must appear from October 7. The proceedings are engaged for acts of violence, destruction of goods and looting.

An unprecedented mobilization carried by Genz 212

The calls to demonstrate come from the Genz 212 collective, recently appeared on the Discord platform. Its initiators, still anonymous, claim to want to create a space for debate on health, education and the fight against corruption.

The group expressed its “regret” in the face of violence, while maintaining its call to continue the mobilization.
