On the sidelines of the 80ᵉ session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Ali Nafti, has chained major diplomatic activities. During a meeting with the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, he underlined the constant attachment of Tunisia to multilateralism.

Meeting with António Guterres: support for the Palestinian cause

During his interview with António Guterres, Mohamed Ali Nafti praised the secretary general positions in favor of the Palestinian cause. The Minister underlined the constant attachment of Tunisia to multilateralism and the central role of the United Nations, despite its structural inadequacies. He recalled the historical involvement of Tunisia in peacekeeping missions and the presidential initiative proclaiming 2025 as the year of the strengthening of multilateral action.

In response, António Guterres described Tunisia as “voice of wisdom in the Mediterranean”, praising her balanced positions and her constant support for UN missions, especially in Libya.

Advocacy for an area without nuclear weapons in the Middle East

In his speech delivered during the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, Mohamed Ali Nafti pleaded for the urgent creation of an area free of nuclear weapons in the Middle East.

He insisted on the need to put an end to the Israeli occupation and to guarantee the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, conditions which he deems “fundamental” to achieve a just and global peace.

The Minister urged nuclear powers to abandon their deterrent policies and assume their historical responsibilities, while welcoming Tunisia’s efforts to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and by calling for the creation of a specialized national body.
