Primary teachers will be on a general sector strike on October 7, 2025. The Tunisian Labor Union (UGTT) denounces a blockage of negotiations by the Ministry of Education for more than six months.
The announcement was made in a notice sent to the government’s heading on Tuesday and to the Ministers of Education and Social Affairs.
Ikbal Azzabi, deputy secretary general of the General Education Federation, explained to the TAP agency that the strike decision is part of a context of unsatisfied professional demands and interruption of social discussions. He notably said that:
“The ministry continues the suspension of negotiations and undermines union rights”.
According to him, the unions had nevertheless ensured to ensure a normal return to school, but the current blockage rekindled tensions.
Teachers’ claims
Primary teachers notably require an improvement in their financial situation, the revision of promotion and premium systems, and the implementation of a global reform program for the educational sector.
The sectoral administrative body must meet before the scheduled date to assess the situation. She will decide to maintain or raise the watchword if the Ministry of Education takes up negotiations.
