A 66-year-old music teacher was attacked on Wednesday morning by a 14-year-old teenager in a classroom at Robert-Schuman college, south of Strasbourg. The teacher, injured in the face, was hospitalized but her vital prognosis is not engaged. The alleged perpetrator, himself seriously injured after having stabbed, was arrested by the gendarmerie.
The assault occurred in class, in front of other students. According to the first elements of the investigation, the motivations of the young attacker remain unknown. The establishment was immediately evacuated.
The college student was mastered by the gendarmes, who gave him first aid. He was transported in absolute emergency to a hospital. The teacher, injured in the face, was also medically taken care of, but her days are not in danger.
The Minister of Resignment National Education, Élisabeth Borne, condemned “forcefully” the assault and announced her arrival on the spot. She confirmed the activation of an emergency unit to support students and staff. Psychological cells have also been implemented.
School violence that awakens previous painful
Benfeld’s assault revives the memory of several recent dramas having bereaved or upset the school in France:
- Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines), October 2020: The professor of history-geography Samuel Paty is assassinated by an Islamist terrorist in front of his college.
- Arras (Pas-de-Calais), October 2023: French teacher Dominique Bernard was killed with a knife by a former radicalized student in his high school.
- Saint-Jean-de-Luz (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), February 2023: a Spanish teacher is stabbed in full class by a 16-year-old student.
- Caen (Calvados), January 2024: a 15 -year -old student is seriously injured in a knife by a comrade in a vocational high school.
These episodes illustrate the recurrence of serious violence in French school environment.
