As the 2025-2026 2025-2026 school year, the Ministry of Transport has set up, in coordination with regional transport companies, a large plan aimed at improving the public transport offer. The objective is clear: strengthen the availability and reliability of the network in order to respond to the expected increase in demand.
According to Wassim Takiya, responsible for the regular transport of people to the Directorate General of Transport, which was expressed on the FM Express, several measures were initiated to enhance the level of preparation of the vehicle park. Bus maintenance and repair operations have been scheduled, in parallel with efforts to modernize and renew the fleets.

On the side of the TransTu rail network (Light Metro and TGM), around 60 trains will be operational, compared to 56 during the previous school year. As for the Tunisian National Railway Company (SNCFT), it plans to put 14 electric trains into circulation on the southern suburbs of Tunis (out of a total of 20) and 7 trains on the Sahel suburbs (out of 7), an availability rate of 78 %.
To a digital information system
The number of buses dedicated to school and university transport will increase from 2,497 to 2,743 vehicles, covering 2,170 lines out of a total of 3,133 lines across the country. This increase aims to absorb an expected increase of 10 % of the number of students and students using transport services.
In the same way, 300 new buses have been allocated to TransTu in two lots, while 418 others should be acquired soon. Rehabilitation works are also underway in several national and regional companies.
To reduce the pressure on the network during peak hours, special services with reduced frequency will be implemented. The ministry also coordinated with the regional authorities to rationalize school and university trips and study an development of school hours.
At the same time, an awareness campaign was launched to preserve the rolling stock and a program to digitize school and university subscriptions is underway, in order to lighten the steps of users.
A real -time information project, via smartphones, on changes in routes, journeys or delays is also in preparation: it should be operational in the Grand Tunis by the end of the year before being generalized throughout the territory.
