Formerly respected humorist, Jerry Seinfeld is today in moral disgrace. During an intervention at Duke University, he compared the “Free Palestine” movement to the Ku Klux Klan, expressing an assumed contempt for millions of Palestinians.
The event, dedicated to Omer Shem Tov, an former Israeli hostage, was diverted by the breastfeld to declare:
“Free Palestine is, for me, just … you are free to say that you don’t like Jews. Compared to Ku Klux Klan, I think Klan is a little better, at least they are honest. »»
The reactions were not long in coming: students, activists and associations denounced dehumanizing and offensive remarks, while political figures speak of “horrible” words.
This outing reveals an actor once end observer, now indifferent and contemptuous, reducing an international solidarity movement to a shocking cliché. For Palestinians, it is a cruel reminder: some celebrities prefer to judge and denigrate rather than understand and respect.
