“Soumoud” flotilla: Ten ships dock in Bizerte to break the Gaza blockade

Ten ships from the “Soumoud” flotilla, an international initiative intended to break the blockade imposed in Gaza, accosted at the end of the morning at the Port of Port of Cap 3000 in Bizerte. The boats carry foreign and Tunisian activists, the first stage of a crossing to the occupied Palestinian territories.

According to Khaled Boujemâa, member of the organizing committee, ten ships of the “flotilla of resilience” arrived in Bizerte with activists from several countries on board. About twenty other boats are expected off the Tunisian coast, where the organizers mobilize to ensure their reception before collective departure to Gaza.

The announced objective is double: to send humanitarian aid and to break the Israeli blockade imposed on the Palestinian enclave.

Khaled Boujemâa underlined the pride of the governorate of Bizerte – and more broadly from Tunisia – to be the starting point for this maritime caravan. He thanked the state structures for their logistical support and expressed the determination of the participants to continue the initiative to Gaza, despite the risks, reports the TAP agency.

The “Soumoud” flotilla is part of a series of citizen and humanitarian initiatives aimed at challenging the blockade of Gaza, established by Israel since 2007. This type of mobilization has already given rise, in the past, to sea tensions and military interventions. For Tunisian organizers, the choice of Bizerte as a starting point symbolizes the country’s commitment in favor of the Palestinian cause.
