Emmanuel Macron appointed Sébastien Lecornu on Tuesday as head of government, replacing François Bayrou, resigning. The official award ceremony is set at Wednesday noon. The new Prime Minister, a former Minister of the Armed Forces, promises discussions before the composition of the government.

François Bayrou gave his Matignon resignation on Tuesday, opening the way to a change of head to the government. In the process, Emmanuel Macron appointed Sébastien Lecornu, hitherto Minister of the Armed Forces, as Prime Minister.

In a first public message, Lecornu expressed his gratitude to the Head of State: “I thank the President of the Republic for his confidence”. Powering is scheduled on Wednesday at noon on Wednesday in Matignon.

Reactions

On the opposition side, criticisms were quick. The Socialist Party has denounced a risky choice: “Emmanuel Macron takes the risk of social anger,” said the PS, who fears an unchanged political line despite this change of Prime Minister. Other political parties are waiting to see the composition of the future government to position itself.

A regular for defense files

François Bayrou, appointed to Matignon only a few months ago, resigned after persistent tensions around the conduct of social and budgetary policy. President Macron, faced with growing unpopularity and social movements, focusing on Lecornu, close to the executive power and accustomed to defense files, to embody a new phase of the five -year term.
