Visit of the Head of Saudi diplomacy: Kaïs Saïed denounces a “new sykes-picot”

President Kaïs Saïed received on Tuesday at the Palais de Carthage, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Fayçal Ben Farhane Ben Abdallah Al Saoud. This meeting, registered as part of an official visit to the invitation of his Tunisian counterpart Mohamed Ali Nafti, was marked by an exchange on the regional situation and bilateral relations.

During the interview, Kaïs Saïed said that the Arab and Islamic region crosses a critical phase assimilated to a “new sykes-picot”. According to him, after the fragmentation of Arab countries, “the Zionist movement now seeks to erase their very existence”.

Defeat the “criminal plan”

The Head of State insisted on the importance of uniting efforts to defeat what he described as “criminal plan”, reiterating the attachment of Tunisia to the right of the Palestinian people to recover all Palestine and to establish his independent state with al-Quds as capital.

He denounced the “crimes of the Zionist enemy” aimed at “exterminating by famine” and breaking the will to liberate the Palestinians, while categorically rejecting the project of forced displacement of populations.

Progress of trade

At the end of the meeting, the Saudi minister said he had transmitted to President Saïed the greetings of King Salmane Ben Abdelaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed Ben Salmane, as well as their vows of prosperity for Tunisia. He highlighted the importance given by Riyadh to strengthen bilateral relations and his constant support for security and stability, Tunisian.

He also underlined the increase in trade between the two countries, reaching $ 417 million in 2024.

Accelerate the realization of projects

The Saudi Minister’s visit took place on the occasion of the 4th session of the Tuniso-Saudi monitoring and political consultation committee. Historically, Tunis and Riyadh maintain close cooperation relations in various fields.

Kaïs Saïed recalled the depth of these links and the shared desire to accelerate the realization of common projects despite certain obstacles.
