Tunisians will have the chance to attend an exceptional celestial show tonight: a Total moon eclipsecommonly known as “blood moon”.

The phenomenon began at 4:28 p.m. with the entrance to the moon into the earth’s darkness. In Tunis, the moon will rise to 6:35 p.m.already overshadowed and tinged with red. The highlight of the evening, the maximum eclipsewill intervene at 7:11 p.m.while the total phase will end at 7:52 p.m.. The complete output of the shadow will occur around 9:55 p.m..

Unlike solar eclipses, no particular protection is necessary. The blood moon will be perfectly visible to the naked eye, even if binoculars and telescopes will make it possible to appreciate the details. For better observation, it is advisable to move away from urban lights and choose a clear horizon.

The National Institute of Meteorology (INM) is organizing a special evening in Tunis, open to the general public from 6.30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Telescopes will be made available to follow live the different phases of the eclipse, but also to observe the planet Saturn, which will be visible in the sky.

This celestial meeting, rare and spectacular, recalls that science and contemplation sometimes meet in the beauty of a moment shared by all.
