Tunisia: creation of a new unit, the municipal guard

The Minister of the Interior, Khaled Nouri, presided over Friday, September 5, 2025 on Friday, 2025, at the National School of the National Guard of Bir Bouregba, the ceremony of the 69ᵉ anniversary of the creation of the body as well as the release of the 75ᵉ Promotion of non-commissioned officers.

Among the graduates, 100 agents will integrate the new national unit of the Municipal Guard, created on the initiative of the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, reports the TAP agency.

The Municipal Guard will be responsible for supporting the economic control services of the Ministry of Commerce in the fight against speculation and monopoly, to contribute to the food security of Tunisians and to ensure compliance with town planning rules and environmental protection.

This initiative reflects the vision of the President of the Republic, which accuses certain networks of voluntarily provoking shortages to weaken the state and endanger the people. The municipal guard is thus conceived as an institutional and security response to what it describes as a “war” against speculators.

The municipal guard will have to act on the front line, in coordination with other security bodies and state services, in order to ensure effective control over the economy, town planning and food security.
