The Correctional Chamber of the Tunis Court of First Instance decided, Friday, September 5, to deliberate the case aimed at the judge revoked Mourad Messaoudi, arrested in mid-August in Ezzahra. The verdict will be returned soon.
According to the prosecution, a deposit warrant was issued against him as part of an investigation into alleged purchase of sponsorships for the 2024 presidential election. The magistrate had already been sentenced by default to eight months in prison with immediate execution.
The Association of Tunisian magistrates (AMT) had denounced her arrest, which she described as “kidnapping”, saying that in civilian security agents have used violence before her family.
Messaoudi was among the 57 magistrates revoked in 2022 by presidential decree, but his revocation had been suspended by administrative justice, restoring his status and immunity.
AMT considers that this case reflects a political relentlessness against a judge candidate for the presidential election and calls for its immediate release as well as respect for the legal guarantees provided for by the Constitution.
