Tunisia is preparing to take a new step in strengthening its military capacities with the acquisition of the American anti -javelin missile system. Washington has announced an additional $ 900.5 million order including deliveries to several Allied countries, including, for the first time, Tunisia and Brazil, reports the specialized site The Defense Post.
With this order, Tunisia will become the first North African country to operate the bleach, a system renowned for its effectiveness and already deployed by American forces in Afghanistan, Iraq, as well as in Ukraine in the context of Western military aid. This acquisition places Tunis in the circle of armies with advanced weapons against armored threats, in the same way as Australia, Bulgaria or Estonia.
A reference system
Developed by the Raytheon – Lockheed Martin consortium, the Javelin is considered one of the most efficient anti -tank systems in the world. Light and portable, it allows soldiers to operate in “shoot and forget” mode with a range from 65 meters to 4 kilometers. The launcher has a control unit (Clu) with day vision capacities and in thermal mode, offering efficiency even in low visibility conditions.
According to Lockheed Martin officials, global demand for this type of armament is growing, pushing American industrialists to increase their production rate. For Tunisia, this new equipment is part of a logic of army modernization and diversification of its military partnerships.
The introduction of the bleach into the Tunisian arsenal therefore marks a strategic turning point: it is not only a capacity strengthening, but also a symbolic stage, since Tunisia becomes the first country of the Maghreb and North Africa to acquire this modern defense system.
