The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians abroad summoned, Wednesday, September 3, 2025, the acting officer of the French Embassy in Tunis on Wednesday, in order to express a lively protest following the death of the Tunisian citizen Abdelkader Dhibi, shot the day before in Marseille.

In a statement, the ministry specifies that, on the instructions of the President of the Republic, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs received the French diplomat in the absence of the ambassador currently outside the country. He told him of the Tunis reprobation farm in the face of this death “in the hands of the French police”.

The Tunisian party considers this act as an “unjustified homicide” and requires French authorities all the diligence and rigor necessary to conduct the investigation, establish responsibilities and do justice. Tunis also said his intention to take all useful measures to guarantee the rights of the victim and his family.

The press release adds that President Kaïs Saïed has instructed the Tunisian ambassador to Paris to transmit the same position to the French authorities and to coordinate with the Consulate General in Marseille to accelerate the repatriation of the body.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has attached to the family of the deceased to present its condolences and inform them of the approaches taken to defend its rights.

The assault with a knife on Tuesday September 2, 2025 in Marseille, in the Belsunce district, continues to arouse questions and feed divergent stories.

The French authorities maintain that a 35 -year -old Tunisian man injured five people with stabbing people before being killed by the police, but another version begins to emerge in certain Tunisian media, carried by family members.

In several Tunisian media, the family of the deceased has a very different reading. His relatives claim that he had no connection with terrorism and was not radicalized. According to them, he found himself at the heart of a local conflict with an “Algerian clan” after his expulsion of accommodation. The man, they insist, would have tried to defend himself before the situation degenerates.
